AKC Canine Good Citizen Test (CGC)

Date: Tuesday, September 21, 2010, 7:15pm, at the Odeum
Non-Members: $10 fee + $5 for a patch if successful.
Members: Free with Free patch.
Bring a leash, slip or buckle collar, and comb or brush.
Sign-up at the Registrar's table.Check the AKC website to insure your dog is ready to take the test.

Agility Training at LTDTC

Owners who have trained with their dogs at other obedience and/or agility facilities will be evaluated for placement at the appropriate agility level.

Lyons offers AKC rules and equipment agility training at three basic levels using food and toys to motivate the dog. These classes, for both purebred dogs and mixed breed dogs, consist of eight ("8") weekly sessions. Class registration is required.

Level 1 Class DescriptionWeave Poles

  • Open to dogs at least one year of age that have had no agility training, but have completed basic obedience training with consistent response on heel, sit, down, stay, and come
  • Develop a fast and reliable recall
  • Teach basic turns and crosses on the flat (no obstacles) and with obstacles 
  • Basic turns and crosses on the flat
  • Develop flexibility in the dog
  • Introduce all agility obstacles
  • Teach targeting

Level 2 Class DescriptionAgility Course Building

  • Open to dogs at least one year of age that have had introductory agility experience or have successfully completed Agility Level 1 as described above
  • Dogs must be reliably under control and must be able to successfully complete a sequence of 6 - 8 obstacles. Weave poles and teeter performance do not need to be mastered
  • Work on basic obstacle performance 
  • Work on handling dog from a greater distance away
  • Practice dog skills for obstacle discrimination 
  • Teach handler skills - front and rear crosses 
  • Teach elementary course strategy skills
  • Practice start-line and course distractions
  • Execute longer sequences

Level 3 (Competition) Class DescriptionA Frame

  • Open to dogs that have obtained one or more qualifying scores towards an agility title
  • Consent of instructor is required
  • Dogs must be able to successfully complete sequences of 16 - 18 obstacles
  • Dogs and handlers build on skills from Level 2 
  • Practice dog skills for jump combinations
  • Practice handler skills for proper footwork
  • Practice advanced course strategy skills
  • Practice running open and excellent level courses
